- Kim Jong Un may bring his own toilet to the historic Inter-Korean summit on Friday.
- Kim always travels with a number of toilets and uses a chamber pot in his Mercedes car.
- North Korea doesn't want potential information about Kim's health to be left behind anywhere and routinely tests his urine and fecal matter to ensure the leader is free of illness.
The leaders of North and South Korea will meet face-to-face for the first time this Friday in the demilitarized zone of Panmunjom on the border between the two nations.
It will be the first leadership summit held the countries in more than a decade. It’s a first for a North Korean leader to agree to visit the South since the Korean War and the South Korean government, led by president Moon Jae-In, has pledged to create an environment conducive to successful diplomacy.
Kim Jong Un will be bringing a number of high-ranking North Korean officials, guards from his Escort Command and his wife Ri Sol-ju and sister Kim Yo-jong may make appearances.
He will also be bringing a toilet.
Whenever he travels, the North Korean leader always brings his own toilet.
Not just one. He has a number of toilets in different vehicles in his motorcade.
The South Korean-based Daily NK reports that “the restrooms are not only in Kim Jong-un’s personal train but whatever small or midsize cars he is traveling with and even in special vehicles that are designed for mountainous terrain or snow.”
“It is unthinkable in a Suryeong (supreme leader)-based society for him to have to use a public restroom just because he travels around the country,” an unnamed source told the publication.
Kim also reportedly has a chamber pot in his Mercedes, if he doesn’t have time to stop to hop out and jump into one of the purpose-built travelling toilets.
Aside from the dislike of using public restrooms, there’s a very important reason for the portable conveniences.
The Washington Post reportsLee Yun-keol, who worked in a North Korean Guard Command unit before coming to South Korea in 2005, said that “the leader’s excretions contain information about his health status so they can’t be left behind.”
The Daily NK also reported that his urine and fecal matter is routinely tested to check Kim is free of illness and in good health.
But his personal preference could be his undoing.
Jeffrey Lewis, a top expert on North Korea, recently has suggested the US should bomb Kim Jong Un’s personal toilet to put fear in him by demonstrating its precision and skill by striking it.
“Destroying the port-a-potty will deny Kim Jong Un a highly valued creature comfort, while also demonstrating the incredible accuracy of US precision munitions to hold Kim and his minions at risk,” Lewis wrote.
“It will send an unmistakable message: We can kill you while you are dropping a deuce.”
